Yummy Valentine's Day Recipes

Updated: Mar 8, 2022

Thinking of something yummy to cook at home and pamper your loved ones? We mixed some Valentine's classics: chocolate, hearts and flowers... The result are these yummy brownies, we're enjoying so much (I know it's not February14th yet, but why not to celebrate all month, right?). The best part about this recipe is that is easy and quick to make, which I love. And it's also very versatile! It's great to enjoy with your partner, little ones, best friends and whoever you want, creating your own style of brownies, with the toppings and decorations you like! This time, we used hearts and flowers molds, and also made some square brownies and decorated them with confectioners sugar and some Valentine's themed stencils.

BROWNIES RECIPE

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/2 cup low fat plain yogurt

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. Preheat the oven to 350 °F.

2. In a large bowl, sift the flour and cocoa powder. Then add the sugar, baking soda and salt. Mix all the ingredients.

3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, yogurt, water, oil and vanilla, until smooth. Then add it to the flour mixture and whisk together until blended.

4. Pour the batter evenly into a baking pan or into a silicon heart-shape mold tray. If using a mold tray, fill them about 2/3 of the way full.

5. Bake for 18 minutes if using a baking pan, or 14 minutes if using a mold tray. Insert a toothpick in the center of the brownies, if it comes out clean, they're ready.

6. Transfer the brownies to a rack to cool for 10 minutes.

7. When the brownies are cool, add your favorite toppings and decorations.

Quick tips:

  • If you don't have heart molds, you can also bake them square and then use a cookie heart-shaped cutter.

  • You can put together a two-layer brownie, spreading 'dulce de leche' (a popular South American dessert) between them. You can also try jelly, peanut butter, sparkles, or any topping you want. Bonus: Strawberries and Cream. You can enjoy this recipe alone or use it as a topping to decorate your brownies!

BONUS RECIPE: STRAWBERRIES AND CREAM

You can enjoy this recipe alone or use it as a topping to decorate your brownies!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup strawberries

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 2 teaspoons sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Pinch salt

1. Using a handheld electric mixer or stand mixer with whisk attachment, whip the heavy cream with the sugar, vanilla extract and salt, on medium low speed until foamy, about 1 minute.

2. Increase speed to high and whip until stiff peaks form, 1 to 3 minutes.

3. Rinse and pat dry strawberries.

4. Using a small, sharp knife, cut a 'V' shape at the top center of the strawberry, removing the stem and leaves. This creates the heart shape.

5. Slice the strawberries in half and place in serving dishes.

6. Pour the whipped cream over the strawberries and enjoy.
